A step by step guide on visiting Canada's biggest indoor waterpark, World Waterpark, located in West Edmonton Mall.
World Waterpark is a beast. At 215,000 sq ft, it ranks as the largest indoor waterpark in Canada, and the former largest indoor waterpark in the world. Featuring 17 massive waterslides, one of the worlds largest indoor wave-pools, two hot tubs, a double flowrider, and a variety of other attractions, you'd be forgiven if you got lost exploring it all.
Luckily, I'm going to give you some insider tips, insight in to the attractions, and a heck of a lot of videos to watch before your visit so you're ready to go!
The Attractions
The first thing you notice about World Waterpark right when you walk in is the sheer variety of rides. From looping slides, to toilet bowls to a huge wave pool, the variety can be overwhelming.
Blue Bullets
These two speed slides serpentine down and around to the bottom. The one on the left is pitch black, while the one on the right has transparent sections. Both of these slides are quite rough, so the lines are short, but I would only suggest doing them once.
Nessies Revenge
One of the OG slides in the park, these duelling speed slides are my favorite attraction at World Waterpark. Lines are always short, and the feeling of flying you get as you launch off the last drop can't be matched.
Cyclone
Cyclone is one of the tallest and fastest aqua-loop waterslides in the world. As the trap door opens below you, you feel your stomach enter your throat as you plummet. A super fun ride, and also not very busy due to its intensity!
Sun Runner
Another classic, the only true tube slide in the park is a mild twisty, turny, ride to the bottom. Lines for this can get decently long due to it being one of the main family attractions in the park.
Slideboarding
One of the newer slides in the park, this interactive game of a waterslide takes your through hundreds of feet of twists and turns. Even if you lose at the game, the actual ride is a lot of fun. Note: you need to carry your own sled to the top of the slide, which can prove to be a hassle.
Tropical Typhoon
I think this is one of the best toilet bowl slides in the world. Its fast, intense, and the bowl is super smooth. Lines can also get extremely long for this one, so doing it early and towards closing is a good idea.
Howler
A high speed slide through darkness, Howler is always a blast! This is also one of the classic slides in World Waterpark, but one that I also think is one of the most fun! Once again lines for this guy can get pretty long, so be prepared.
Skyscreamer Extreme
Two of the tallest slides in the park, these twin trap door launch slides drop over 85 feet to the ground below.
One of them is a tunnel, the other is open. You get to pick your poison while you ride!
Due to the intensity of these slides, there's always a short line for them as well. Something to keep in mind!
Corkscrews
Two smooth green classics that twist and spin their way down. One of them is faster, but I'm not going to tell you which! Guess you'll have to race your friends down to find out!
Twisters
These two slides are the longest in the park. Clocking in at almost 40 seconds of ride time, they're some of the longest slides I've ever been on.
Don't be fooled though. These guys can pick up some serious speed! The can also get the longest lines in the park, so be warned.
Kids Slides
World Waterpark also features a water play structure with kids slides, and a smaller family slide called Caribbean Cruiser.
Tips and Tricks
So now that you know all the ride the park offers, it's time to plan your attack method! Here are some tips and tricks for getting the most out of your day at the waterpark.
When you get to the park, try to ride the Twisters, Sun Runner and Howler early as these slides will get the longest lines.
Chairs on the beach are first come first serve. Make sure to come early and bring your towel out on deck with you, that way you can reserve chairs right near the wave pool.
Waves run every 15 minutes in a variety of patters. If you want shorter lines on the slides, try to ride while the waves are just in the middle of their cycle.
The waterpark features Coca-Cola machines scattered throughout. These are free so don't worry about trying to bring water into the park.
World Waterpark has a strict no camera policy, so don't even try to bring camera's on the slides.
The Hot Tub near Sun Runner tends to be the busier of the two. The other one is located near the back right left of the park, and usually has a bit more space.
Park near the waterpark, and parking somewhere else around the mall can lead to a very long walk.
The wave pool is intense, so don't go beyond your limits.
You can rent a tube and use it one a few slides like the Twisters and Howler. You'll still need to wait in line to ride, but it can be a unique way to change up the ride experience. If you use your tube in the wave pool, prepare to be flipped HARD.
If you go during weekdays, attractions might open on a rotating schedule. Weekends are the only time you can almost guarantee all attractions will be operating.
I hope all this info helps! Have a great time at World Waterpark. It's so much fun!
